My name is Matthew Enger, and I am Secondary Department Supervisor at Precision Plus, Inc. I am a 2011 graduate of Elkhorn Area High School. Prior to my employment at Precision Plus, I was working full-time at a company where I enjoyed working with my hands, but there were no benefits such as health insurance, paid vacation and 401K. The work was slowing to part time, and I found myself searching for secure, full-time employment with benefits and opportunities for personal growth.
In March of 2014, I had learned from a former teacher, Barry Butters, who happened to be Precision Plus’s Director of Education & Training at that time, that there were openings in a few departments at the company. I submitted my application, was hired, and my career in advanced manufacturing started two weeks later in the Secondary Department. Keep in mind, this was a big change in my life, with zero knowledge about CNC machines, measuring equipment, or what to expect.
Precision Plus quickly enrolled me in their training program where I learned the basics needed to contribute on the production floor. After working in the Secondary Department for a little over a year, I decided to take classes at Gateway Technical College (GTC) in their CNC Technician & Programmer courses. Starting in the fall of 2015, I attended school part-time while working full-time, taking classes as they became available and completing the three semesters in the fall of 2018. I am appreciative that Precision Plus was not only flexible by adjusting my work schedule to accommodate the class schedules, but also covering a portion of my financial responsibility to GTC through the company’s tuition reimbursement program.
The company recognized my positive attitude and aptitude, which resulted in a personal growth opportunity in mid-2016 with the role of Secondary Department Supervisor. I am challenged every day, get to use new technology, am fortunate to work with amazing people and have the opportunity to continually grow and sharpen my leadership skills.
