Bringing in New Technology Doesn’t Mean Out with the Tornos

It’s no secret Precision Plus has invested a great deal to procure the latest technology. In January, we brought in 2 additional Star SW-20’s to round out a trio of high-volume, state-of-the-art Swiss machines. In 2020, equipment acquisitions included 2 Star SW-12RII’s along with a 2nd Brother R650XI Speedio Vertical Milling Center with a twin pallet and Nikken 4th axis table. These additions to the fleet join other high-tech equipment such as our collaborative robot, Sawyer, the Hardinge super precision lathe, and our variety of Swiss CNC Star machines.

Precision Plus

Last week, many area high school students had the opportunity of attending one of the largest industrial trade shows in the world, featuring more than 2,500 exhibiting companies and over 129,000 registrants. On Friday, September 14, we chartered three coach buses headed to IMTS 2018 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Our buses were filled with 165 students, educators, and engaged parents, ready to take on this year’s show – the biggest one to date.

Preparing Students to be Career Ready

Precision Plus

Congressman Paul Ryan during his visit to Precision Plus earlier this year.

It is a positive thing when unemployment numbers in our country are at record lows and consumer confidence is on the rise. With so much good news, it’s easy to be optimistic about the future. However, as the economy continues to grow and businesses add jobs, we need to continue to focus on the skills gap that exists in our industry’s workforce. At a recent House Republican Leadership press conference, Congressman Paul Ryan talked about “the need for more workers and especially workers with the right skills.” The jobs are there, but the right people to fill these positions are needed more than ever.

This past spring, Mr. Fred Ganter of Elkhorn Area High School (EAHS), along with some of his SkillsUSA team members, made a presentation to Precision Plus requesting support to help them attend and compete at the National SkillsUSA competition June 19-23, in Louisville, Kentucky. Mike Reader committed to helping the team, and this week the group of high school seniors returned to accept the check, report back on the competition, and discuss their post-graduation goals. Also, to show their gratitude, the students presented Precision Plus with a branded cornhole game set they made in the recently upgraded EAHS Technical Education Department.

Visit From Phoenix Middle School

Precision Plus

We always enjoy inviting students to Precision Plus to show them what an advanced manufacturing facility really looks like, as well as the career opportunities that can be available to them in the future. Earlier this week, we welcomed 32 seventh grade math students from Phoenix Middle School in Delavan.
