Scholarships Geared Toward Our Industries

It is very clear to every student and parent that the cost of higher education is rising far faster than our pay stubs, yet there are so many scholarships and grant opportunities that go unknown and often underutilized. According to Sallie Mae, the nation’s leading provider of student loans, about a third of American families used scholarships and grants to pay for college in 2015-2016, but roughly $100 million in scholarship funds go unclaimed every year.

The American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) continues to offer scholarships to students who are interested in careers within the gear industry and/or in power transmissions as it relates to the gear industry. This year, the AGMA Foundation happily reported that they received the largest number of applications that they have ever had. In past years, the scholarships have been awarded at the undergraduate and graduate school levels, but new this year, the scholarship program is now also open to Technical Certification and Associate Degree students.

Scholarship programs like the AGMA Foundation provide a way for these students to reach their career goals, as well as strengthen our industry. As you or your child start thinking about the future and the education and career path to take, be sure to leave no stone unturned when it comes to searching for financial support. There is money out there, and a lot of it is aimed at the gear and machining industries.

There are also several initiatives that have begun offering financial support for female students in the subjects of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Careers pertaining to math and science have traditionally been male-dominated, and to combat that, a number of scholarship opportunities geared toward increasing female presence in the STEM fields have been made available.

Precision Plus knows how important it is to find and train the next generation of manufacturing professionals. We know how rewarding a career in our industry can be, and we continue to encourage students to focus on math, science, and technology. That is why we offer valuable internship positions and an Education Assistance Program. We applaud organizations such as the AGMA Foundation and many others that make scholarship funds available to the future of American manufacturing.
