The Role of Manufacturers in Communities

Having just wrapped up a busy week in Chicago for the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), and hosting 165 local students, educators, and engaged parents, I am excited about the momentum we have helped build in the community. Now that our students have seen the amazing technology, let’s show them how they can explore advanced manufacturing careers locally. October is celebrated by leading manufacturers across the country as Manufacturing Month to help promote this industry as a viable career choice.

Precision Plus celebrates manufacturing technologies and careers by hosting our annual Open House to welcome our community and our neighbors into our facility, showing them the magic that happens every day. Typically, Manufacturing Day events are hosted on the first Friday in October, but we have always held ours on a Saturday to allow greater participation.

This year we are hosting our Manufacturing Day event on Saturday, October 20th. Our guests will have the opportunity to participate in plant tours with work stations operated by our experts, showing the unique capabilities of the equipment and the skills required to make it all happen. The bottom line is that anyone can purchase a state-of-the-art machine tool, but what separates the leading companies is having the skilled craftsmen and women to optimize the processes, getting the most out of the equipment. We are very fortunate to have such a great group of skilled and passionate team members. Following the tour we will have snacks, refreshments, and staff available to answer additional questions about starting a manufacturing career. For event details and registration, please visit: https://www.mfgday.com/events/2018/precision-plus-7.

Weather permitting, we also invite our team members and guests to bring out their fun, four-wheeled, “big kid” toys that are only affordable with a well-paying career, which can be had in the advanced manufacturing industry. Not only do manufacturers get to build cool stuff like this, they have the means to earn it for themselves. The car show is always a hit!

I must also give a big shout out to another important October cause: Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I wish all cancers were preventable, or at least curable, but, unfortunately, we are still a long way from that goal. If you are curious about how you can help bring awareness or help in other ways, please visit https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-cancer-support.

I look forward to seeing everyone at our Manufacturing Day Event on October 20th. It is always a wonderful day, giving people the opportunity to see a clean, bright, high-tech, and modern work environment that our industry offers – right here in our community.
