Matt Fryar, Tornos Platform Setup Technician
Matt Fryar has been a part of the Precision Plus team since June of 1999, starting right after his high school graduation. He learned his trade by starting in Precision Plus’ Secondary Department, and Finishing Department, and then moved on to learning the trade of Swiss CNC Operator. He is now a Tornos Platform Setup Technician, and his duties include setting up new production jobs, training interns to operate Tornos machines, assisting operators in machine adjustments, helping with Micronite, performing repairs on Tornos machines, operating machines when needed, and helping in the Finishing Department when needed.
Matt’s time at Precision Plus has come full circle. Once the student at Precision Plus, he became successful working in so many different departments, and he is now passing on that education to others. Matt says he really enjoys “being able to help and teach the interns and operators.” His supervisor, Production Manager Tom Lankford, agrees that Matt is a great instructor to new employees and interns. “He has been a great asset with training and helping to improve the process with the Micronite program,” says Tom. He adds that Matt is quite versatile and can move from different departments and positions, when necessary.
Although his supervisor says that Matt can also be counted on to work extra hours and weekends when needed, he does enjoy some hobbies in his downtime. Fishing and deer hunting are outdoor activities that keep him busy, but he also loves his X-Box One, citing Fallout Four and Far Cry Primal as favorite games! Matt is also quite the music fan, especially of the rock band Mushroom Head, who he has seen play live five times! He is looking forward to seeing them perform again in May.
